About 10v10 soccer

Ten-a-side is less common as an official format, but coaches meet it all the time: at festivals, in leagues that use it as a stepping stone, and on any Saturday when a full-sided team has ten players. The usual approach is to take a familiar eleven-a-side shape and decide which position you can best do without.

Who plays it: used by some leagues and tournaments, and whenever an eleven-a-side team is a player short. The field: Usually a full-sized or nearly full-sized field. Age groups and field sizes vary from league to league, so check your own league's rules.

10v10 formations

There are 4 10v10 formations in the sheet maker. Each has its own printable lineup sheet and a short guide to its strengths and weaknesses:

  • 3-4-2: Teams adjusting from nine-a-side that already know how to play with three at the back.
  • 3-4-2 Diamond: Sides with more central midfielders than wingers.
  • 4-3-2: Teams that concede too many goals in a three-back shape, or that are preparing for the full-sided game.
  • 3-3-3: Developing teams learning positional play and passing in triangles.

Want it filled in for you?

The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.

Questions

How many players are on the field in 10v10?

10 per team including the goalkeeper, so 9 outfield players. The lineup sheet has a box for each of them in every quarter, plus a bench row.

What is the best 10v10 formation?

There is no single best one. 3-4-2 is a common starting point: Teams adjusting from nine-a-side that already know how to play with three at the back. Pick the shape your players understand.

Is the 10v10 lineup sheet free to print?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and prints on one landscape page.
