The 10v10 4-3-2 formation
The 4-3-2 gives a ten-a-side team a full back four, three midfielders and two strikers. It is the most defensively secure of the common ten-player shapes and feels familiar to anyone who has played a 4-4-2.
Strengths
- A back four that covers the full width
- Two strikers to share the work up front
- Easy step up to an eleven-a-side 4-4-2 or 4-3-3
Weaknesses
- Three midfielders have a wide field to cover
- Attacks can lack width unless full-backs push forward
Best for
Teams that concede too many goals in a three-back shape, or that are preparing for the full-sided game.
Coaching tip
Encourage one full-back at a time to overlap, with the midfielder on that side covering behind.

Want it filled in for you?
The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.
