The 10v10 3-4-2 formation
The 3-4-2 is the ten-a-side cousin of the 3-5-2: three defenders, four midfielders and two strikers. Playing a player short of the full game, it keeps a front pair and a solid midfield line by going without full-backs.
Strengths
- Balanced: every line has support nearby
- Two forwards to press and combine
- A midfield four covers the width
Weaknesses
- Wide midfielders must drop in to help the back three
- Three defenders can be stretched by long diagonal passes
Best for
Teams adjusting from nine-a-side that already know how to play with three at the back.
Coaching tip
Name the wide midfielder on the far side as the emergency fourth defender on every attack.

Want it filled in for you?
The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.
