The 11v11 4-3-3 formation
The 4-3-3 uses a back four, three midfielders and a front line of two wingers either side of a centre forward. It spreads players across the whole width high up the field, which makes it a natural attacking and pressing shape.
Strengths
- Width in attack without asking midfielders to run the flank
- A midfield three creates passing triangles everywhere
- Three forwards can press the opposing defence from the front
Weaknesses
- The lone centre forward can be isolated if the wingers stay too wide
- Space behind the wingers if they do not track back
Best for
Teams with quick wide players who like to run at defenders and a squad comfortable passing through midfield.
Coaching tip
Have the winger on the far side come inside the box whenever the ball is crossed from the other flank.

Want it filled in for you?
The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.
