The 5v5 1-1-2 formation
The 1-1-2 puts one player at the back, one in the middle and two up front. It is the most adventurous five-a-side shape, keeping two attackers high and trusting a single defender behind them.
Strengths
- Two forwards create constant scoring chances
- Encourages confident, attacking play
- Simple for the forwards to press the other team's defenders
Weaknesses
- A lone defender is easily outnumbered
- Needs the forwards to track back
Best for
Confident groups that score freely and can afford some risk.
Coaching tip
Make the nearest forward responsible for chasing back every time the ball is lost.

Want it filled in for you?
The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.
