The 9v9 3-2-3 formation
The 3-2-3 puts three defenders behind two central midfielders and three forwards. It gives nine-a-side teams width at both ends of the pitch and relies on the midfield pair to link them.
Strengths
- Width in defence and in attack
- Three forwards pin the opposing defenders back
- A good introduction to wingers and a centre forward
Weaknesses
- Only two midfielders, who can be bypassed or outnumbered
- A big gap can open between defence and attack
Best for
Teams with two strong, hard-running central midfielders.
Coaching tip
Ask the wingers to drop into midfield when defending, turning the shape into a 3-4-1.

Want it filled in for you?
The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.
