The 8v8 3-2-2 formation
The 3-2-2 lines eight-a-side players up as three defenders, two midfielders and two strikers. It gives width at the back and a partnership up front, with a compact pair in the middle to join the two.
Strengths
- Secure back three
- Two strikers to occupy the opposing defenders
- Outside defenders can step forward to add width
Weaknesses
- Only two in midfield
- Limited width higher up unless defenders advance
Best for
Teams with two forwards who score goals and defenders who are comfortable carrying the ball.
Coaching tip
Encourage the outside defenders to dribble forward into the space in front of them.

Want it filled in for you?
The free SOXY app does the parts a web page cannot. It keeps your roster, knows which players have said they are coming, and fills all four quarters so playing time comes out even. It rotates the goalkeeper, lets you drag players between positions, saves a lineup for every game, and prints this same sheet with the field, both coaches and the referees already on it.
